Tuition and Fees
For one academic year of Chinese instruction, the total
tuition is 1,500 USD, payable at the time of registration. An additional
non-refundable 40 USD of fees is required for the application and
registration process, also payable at the time of registration.
For one academic semester of Chinese instruction, the
tuition is 800 USD in addition to the non-refundable 25 USD fee, also
payable at the time of registration.
If a student who has paid for a full year of instruction
wishes to withdraw after the first semester, he or she will be charged
for only the first semester, total of 800 USD, and will receive a
refund for the remaining sum. The refund will be calculated in accordance
to the exchange rate of the RMB to the USD at the time of registration.
The withdrawal needs to take place before the beginning of the second
semester.
If a student wishes to withdraw before completing a full
academic semester of studies and after the 4th (fourth) weak of classes,
the tuition paid will NOT be refunded, except in the case of illness,
an emergency or some other special circumstances which need to be
discussed with the Office of Internatinal Exchange & Cooperation.
In case of withdrawal before the completion of the fourth week of
classes, the student will receive a partial refund based on the total
amount of class hours attended. The 25 USD fee is non-refundable.
Please note that tuition and fees are to be paid in full
at the time of registration in the form of RMB and cash only. The
exchange rate which will apply will be the one at the time of registration.
It is the student¡¯s responsibility to make sure that he/she has the
full amount of tuition and fees in RMB. Foreign currencies, travellers
cheques or credit cards are not accepted. For more information on

More Information for International
students
* Banking
There are 8 branches of the Bank of China in Chuxiong.
The main branch will change US and Euro travelers cheques. Additionally,
each branch has an ATM which will accept foreign cards of the Visa,
Masercard or Cirrus network.
Foreigners are permitted to open a bank account in
Chuxiong. All of this information will be provided during the orientation.

Electricity
Electricity is 220 V, 50 cycles AC. If you¡¯re
bringing appliances which run on lower voltage, it is available
to purchase an adaptor before coming to Chuxiong. As for plugs,
the following five designs will work here: three-pronged angled
pins (like in Australia), three-pronged round pins (like in Singapore),
two flat pins (like in North America), two narrow round pins (like
in Europe), and three rectangular pins (like in the UK).

Health
Medical services are cheap in China. Next
to the international students and teachers building is where the
University clinic is located. Students and teachers will be provided
with a water dispenser ¨C big 20-litre bottles of drinking water
are readily available and will be delivered to your house. Each
bottle costs 5 ¨C 6 yuan (RBM). It is advisable to purchase a health
insurance before coming to China, making sure it covers repatriation
costs, if needed. Otherwise, a ¡°China Survival Guide¡± will be given
at the time of Orientation, which will cover some basic rules to
avoid some common problems.

China has 10 national holidays which will be observed at CNU:

In addition to these
holidays, there will be a week off for the May Day (International
Labour Day) and the National Day. The Mid-Autumn Festival takes
place on the 15th day of the eighth lunar month during the full
moon. The town of Chuxiong also celebrates the Torch Festival, which
takes place on the 24th day of the sixth lunar month (in August).

Internet
There is a large computer lab on campus,
which is open every day of the week. In addition, there are several
internet cafes in town, which are fairly cheap. Otherwise, all international
students and teachers¡¯accommodation is provided with 24-hour internet
connection, with a cost of 30 yuan (RMB) per month.

Post & Communication
The main post office is located in the very
center of town, walking distance from the University. It publishes
a small booklet in English which provides rates for postcards, letters
and packages.

Restaurants
Eating out in Chuxiong is for all budgets
and tastes. Most restaurants serve Chinese food, with the exception
of a few Western restaurants and pizza places. Being a University
town, there are several cheap eateries right outside the main gates,
which can offer an enjoyable alternative to cafeteria food. There
are also a number of cafes in town serving all sorts of teas and
brewed coffee.

Shopping
Most things are readily available in Chuxiong,
with the exception of some Western food which can only be bought
in Kunming. There are many farmers¡¯market in town, and many streets
with cheap and expensive boutiques.

Transportation
Chuxiong is a small town, and most places
are within walking distances from the University. There is an extensive
and efficient network of local buses which run from the early hours
of the day till late night. Additionally, mini buses run non-stop
up and down the main street outside the West Gate of the University.
With the exception of taxis which charge 5 yuan (RMB) anywhere in
town, (10 yuan after 10 pm), buses and mini buses cost 0.5 yuan
(RMB).

Weather
Chuxiong has northern subtropical monsoon
type weather, with dry winters and wet summers. The annual mean
temperature is 15.6 C and the yearly rainfall 826 mm. The rainfall
from May to October accounts for 76% of the total. There is a popular
saying among the people that goes like this: ¡°four seasons coexist
in one mountain range; different skies cover places only one li
apart.¡±
